Zoe Vest, age 85, passed away peacefully on the morning of January 7, 2021 at her home in Houston, Texas in the company of her beloved family. She was born in Alexandria, Egypt on July 18, 1935 to Maria Lombardou Georgiou and Constantine Georgiou.

Her early life in Alexandria was a happy and formative time as she grew up with her two older brothers George and Alex in a vibrant Greek community. She was a very active young woman who enjoyed playing sports, particularly basketball, as well as spending time at the beach and near the ocean. Zoe learned to speak several languages at an early age as her early school years were taught in her native Greek while later schooling was in English which she learned to speak flawlessly, as well as Arabic, French and Italian.

After the passing of her father in 1961, Zoe took a job in Tripoli, Libya and together with her mother moved there in 1962. It was there that she would meet the love of her life, a petroleum geologist working for Continental Oil Company named Harry A. Vest, and they were married soon after in Rotterdam, Holland on December 28, 1965.

In 1966 Harry and Zoe moved to Dubai, Trucial States which would prove to be a pioneering time in Dubai as the first oil was discovered and the country would be launched into a new era.

They would go on to spend 16 years in Dubai and start their family together with the birth of their 3 sons. In addition to being a steadfast wife and mother, Zoe worked in the administration at the Jumeirah American School where her sons attended their studies and was an active member Petroleum Wives Club of Dubai.

Zoe and Harry had very active social lives with their good friends in the tight knit Dubai Petroleum Company community at the time, as well as being honored to attend various ceremonies and celebrations at the invitation of Sheikh Rashid, Ruler of Dubai, and Queen Elizabeth II of England.

These years were a vibrant time of frequent travel for Zoe and her entire family as they would often visit Zoe's relatives in England, Greece, Cyprus, and Australia as well as vacationing and touring cities in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the United States.

In 1982 Zoe and her family moved to Houston, Texas. While continuing as a loving mother, Zoe quickly became involved with the Greek Orthodox Church community at first with the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and then later in 1992 with the founding of St. Basil The Great Greek Orthodox Church in West Houston.

Having been part of the St. Basil The Great Greek Orthodox parish from its earliest days, she and her husband Harry were ever present volunteers at the St. Basil's Greek Festival and other fund raising and social activities. She was instrumental in creating and supporting the weekly Fellowship Luncheon at St. Basil's which brings people in the community together to enjoy good food and company while helping fund the church's mission. Her recipe for the spaghetti sauce that is served is largely unchanged to this day.

Zoe was also a very active member and leader of the St. Basil's Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society as they tirelessly sought to promote their mission of charity and philanthropy in the community.

Never one to sit still, Zoe also played important roles in organizing various Dubai and Tripoli reunions over the years, where she and Harry would come together with old friends to relive the magical time they had spent abroad and make new memories.

In more recent years Zoe particularly enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren Alexa, Jameson, Ari and Nico as she was a proud and loving grandmother.

Zoe will forever be known for her kindness, grace and service to others. Her dedication to her family and to her church community is beyond measure. With seemingly boundless energy and never one to simply talk about doing things, Zoe's life was defined by actively working to get things accomplished.

She is survived by her two sons and their families Steven and Mandy Vest (daughter Alexa), Johnny and Lindsay Vest (son Jameson), and her daughter-in-law Lizbett Vest (sons Ari and Nico).

Formal church services and interment for Zoe Vest will take place on Friday, January 15, 2020, 11:00AM at St. Basil The Great Greek Orthodox Church, 1100 Eldridge Pkwy, Houston, TX.
