Obituary

Yvonne Storey Koehn, 85, of Cypress, Texas passed away on February 7, 2023 surrounded by her husband and family after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Yvonne was born on June 11, 1937 in Cameron, Texas. She graduated with honors from Yoe High School in 1955. In the Fall of 1959, Yvonne married Charles Albert Koehn of Bellville, Texas. Together they raised four children, Denise, Charles Jr., Kimberly, and Christopher, as well as their grandson Joshua.

Yvonne dedicated her life to the service of children, most notably the Girl Scouts. Her journey began in Cameron Texas as a young Girl Scout with a desire to make a difference. She returned to the Girl Scouts in 1965 as a troop leader. As a volunteer she served as troop cookie chair, a national delegate for AGSES, board member, trainer, and the chair of several San Jacinto Girl Scout committees. In 1979, she was hired as the Director of Human Resources. Moving forward, she also served many years as the Program Director before becoming the Assistant Executive

Director of Direct Services, until her retirement in 2000. She spent many hours working diligently at home in her quest to provide exceptional programs to enhance young minds and hearts. Her mark on the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto and outside programs for young women are immeasurable.

We as a family would be remiss if we did not mention the personal devotion she consistently gave to her loved ones. From the dance recitals, football games, on-stage performances, and field trips; to the boo-boos, tears, and breakups; she was always there in mind, body, and spirit. We all have our special story she helped create. Her legacy of eternal optimism and hope spread throughout the family, and it provided each of us with a strong foundation for our individual achievements and challenges.

Yvonne grew up in the Baptist church and later moved to the Cypress United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. Throughout her life, Yvonne maintained her strong belief in God and her Christian values.

Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents, Happy Storey and Emily Storey Volcek; daughter Denise Braun; grandson Kyler Kegen Koehn; sister Doris Gene Storey; and brother Ronnie Storey.

She is survived by her husband Charles Sr.; her children Charles Jr., Kimberly Koehn Baker and husband Jerry Baker, and Christopher and his wife Kimberly Dudley Koehn; grandchildren Joshua, Christian, Madison, and Lillian Koehn, and Celeste Dudley; great grandchildren Kyler Ray Koehn and Rowan Flores; siblings Lee Storey, and Pamela Volcek Gardner.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to either the Alzheimer's Association ( www.alz.org ) or the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto ( www.gssjc.org ).
