On the evening of April 15, 2023, Wilma McBride peacefully passed away. She was loved greatly by her family and friends, and will be remembered for her joy, laughter, and care.
Wilma was the fourth of six children, born at home to Jewel Talkington Humphrey and Abraham Humphrey in Dover, Arkansas. In the marching band at Arkansas Polytechnic College (Arkansas Tech University), she met Sam McBride, her husband of more than 60 years. The McBride's lived in Dallas, Texas, Rancho Palos Verdes, California, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, before moving to Cypress, Texas. They embraced each new community and developed deep and close friendships wherever they lived. Wilma and Sam raised two daughters in a home full of love and laughter. A highlight of Wilma's life was time spent with her granddaughters creating, imagining, and exploring.
With a desire to work with children and families, Wilma earned a MA in Human Development from Pacific Oaks College and directed the preschool at Rolling Hills United Methodist Church in California. She continued her career of helping children as a social worker at the University of New Mexico's Young Children's Health Center. Later Wilma worked as a realtor in Albuquerque.
Wilma is survived by her daughters and grandchildren who will miss her dearly. Wilma's family wishes to thank the staff at Village on the Park Steeplechase for their compassionate care over the past few years. Her family will celebrate her life with a private service.
