Nelson, Jr. was born in Tyler, Texas, on November 2, 1972. The beloved son of Willie Clyde Nelson, Sr. and Ruby Jones Nelson, Willie was raised in Jacksonville, Texas, where he attended primary schools before graduating from Jacksonville High School in 1991. He was a father, son, brother, uncle, and friend to many.
Willie's passion for serving his community led him to join the Houston Fire Department on February 2, 2007. He loved being a firefighter and took great pride in his work. For Willie, being a firefighter was more than a job; it was a way of life. He cherished the brotherhood, camaraderie, and sense of purpose that came from serving alongside his firefighting brothers and sisters.
Willie had a big heart. He found joy in meeting people from all walks of life and approached every call with compassion and a desire to make a difference. His dedication to serving others was a testament to his character and commitment to making the world a better place.
Outside of work, Willie enjoyed traveling, attending sports events, cooking and grilling, cycling, CrossFit, and concerts. He had a love of music and recently learned to play the guitar. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the LA Lakers.
The most important things in Willie's life were the Houston Fire Department, helping others, family, and friends.
Willie's passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his three sons, William Caleb Nelson, Willie Cristian Nelson, and Wilson Carlos Nelson; the mother of his three sons, Anna Melendez Nelson; his father, Willie Clyde Nelson, Sr.; sister La Tonia Nelson Davidson (Jerrell); paternal aunt Sally Coleman; maternal aunts Jearline Dennis, Mildred Waters, and Nancy Runnels (Arthur Sr.); and maternal uncle Vance Jones (Jewel). Other surviving family members include Willie's nieces Jazzmin Davidson and Erica Davidson; nephews Jerrell Davidson, Jr. and Terrell Davidson; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Willie was preceded in death by his mother, paternal grandparents Clarence and Viola Nelson, and his maternal grandparents Glover and Epsie Jones.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Jamie Larson for staying with Willie in Thailand, William Plattenburg, Carlos Wallace, the Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association, the Houston Fire Department, Klein Funeral Homes, Asia One Mortuary, and all of the individuals who have reached out to them with kind words of comfort.
