William (Bill) A. Robbins, Jr. passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, at the age of 93. He lived an active, rewarding and enriched life. Bill was born on February 12, 1932, in Vicksburg, MS to his loving parents William Arthur Robbins, Sr. and Marie (Smith) Robbins. Bill's Mom, Marie, passed when he was in college and his father would later marry Hetta Crawley Gilbert with whom Bill had a close relationship.

The family moved to Port Arthur, TX in 1941 from Mississippi and eventually settled in Beaumont, TX. At twelve years old, Bill's first job was delivering newspapers for the Beaumont Enterprise & Journal. He sold extra newspapers when World War II ended for 50 cents each and made enough money to buy his first baseball glove. Bill loved playing, watching, and coaching baseball during his lifetime. He worked for the public school system closing windows during warmer days and turning on the steam heat in the winter at an elementary school while attending high school.

Bill met and fell in love with Carolyn Sue Jordan while attending South Park High School in Beaumont, TX. They were married on June 5th, 1953, and would celebrate 72 years together. Bill and Carolyn had two sons, Michael and Steven. His sons remember him as a constant source of love and encouragement and respected his integrity, work ethic and perseverance. His quick wit and idioms will be missed.

Bill attended Lamar University, initially to obtain an education degree. During the summer between his freshman and sophomore years in college, Bill worked on a geophysical gravity crew in South Louisiana. This experience, and a mentor who managed the geophysical crew, led him to change his major to geology. Bill worked 40 hours a week for Southern Pacific Railroad as a night crew dispatcher while attending college with a full course load. He was denied entry into the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Officer Candidate program due to not meeting the height requirement for this service branch. He continued with his education obtaining a BS – Geology degree in 1955 and was drafted into the U.S. Army after graduation.

The military held a special place in Bill's life even with only two years of active duty. He was a patriot and loved to serve his country. The discipline, structure and opportunities that the military provided aligned perfectly with his nature. Bill completed basic training at Fort Ord, CA, and was stationed at Fort Bliss, TX for active duty. He served as a Battalion Operations and Intelligence Sergeant with the U.S. Army Air Defense Center, supporting the Guided Missile School where he received letters of appreciation and commendation in addition to Soldier of the Month recognition. He was honorably discharged in late 1957 and continued to serve in a U.S. Army Reserve unit based in Fort Chaffe, AR, during his transition to civilian life. Bill's interest in the military continued until his passing. He had an extensive library of military books that were often gifted or used for studies by family and friends.

After his discharge from the U.S. Army, Bill accepted a field engineer job with Core Laboratories, Inc., an oil & gas service company in Lafayette, LA. He was on call 24 hours a day for his first eight years with Core Lab. Bill's responsibilities often included driving a company provided El Camino to drilling rig locations with his two sons in tow, to review, analyze, and pick up core samples for more extensive lab work. Working the mercury pump in the core analysis lab, meeting other Core Laboratories employees and clients in the Lafayette Oil Center, fishing offshore, hunting, and having Saturday breakfast followed by haircuts were family experiences his sons will never forget. Bill had a strong interest in the oil and gas business, but more importantly he valued the relationships he developed with people. He enjoyed serving the community in leadership positions as President & V.P. of Lafayette Civitan Club, President of PTA, President of Lafayette Well Logging Society, Secretary Gulf Coast Geological Society, and of course, as a Little League Baseball Coach.

Bill held a series of district and division management positions eventually becoming the President of Core Laboratories, Intl. These career changes involved moving from Lafayette, LA to Houston, TX, and eventually to Dallas, TX, where Core Laboratories, Inc, headquarters was located. Bill had the opportunity to travel the world as the President of Core Laboratories, Intl. to over forty operational locations in twenty-two countries. He directed a multinational work force consisting of 1,300 professional and technical employees. He served on the board of directors of five joint ventures in Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia and China. Bill spent 50% to 60% of his time traveling outside of the US each year. Occasionally his wife Carolyn would accompany him, much to the delight of his international business partners.

Bill retired after thirty-two years of service with Core Laboratories, Inc. and for the next two years was a management consultant working in the financial and oil & gas industries. In 1990, he accepted a full time V.P. & General Manager's position with Dalworth Clean in Euless, TX. He focused on operational management, personnel development and P&L accountability for the next twelve years. Bill often spoke highly of James Smith and the Dalworth team and appreciated the opportunity to be part of this organization in his later years.

Bill had a servant's heart, as shown by his interest in serving his church and community. He taught an adult international Sunday School class and represented Park Cities Baptist Church on the Dallas Interfaith Job Search Council Board of Directors. He was on the Dallas County Park and Open Space Program Board of Directors. He was active in the Dallas Area Republican Party and attended the Republican State Conventions as a delegate for three years. He was a "Ranger" for George W. Bush's governor campaigns in 1994 and 1998.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Sue Robbins. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Michael William (Lisa) and Steven James (Charlotte); five loving grandchildren: Kathryn, Kelly, Ryan, Alex, and Zach in addition to eleven great grandchildren! He is also survived by his brother and his wife, James (Orelia) Robbins his sister Martha Anderson and his youngest sister and husband, Rita (Louie) Self.

The family will have a small private ceremony in the fall. At that time, Bill will be inurned at Park Cities Baptist Columbarium in Dallas, TX, alongside his wife, Carolyn.
