Obituary

William Townsend Hamlin ("Bill") passed away peacefully at the age of 79 during the morning of January 3, 2023, in his home on Lake Conroe in Montgomery, Texas. Bill was born on September 11, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to William and Marjorie (Townsend) Hamlin. The oldest of four brothers, Bill grew-up in Southern New Jersey where he developed a passion for the game of golf while caddying at local country clubs during High School.

In 1963 Bill enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was responsible for the operation of B-52 reconnaissance equipment during the Vietnam War. Bill was first stationed at Wurtsmith AFB in Oscoda, Michigan. It was there he met Theresa Ann Bruce ("Terri") who, in 1966, he married in Detroit, Michigan. In 1967, Bill was reassigned to Bergstrom AFB in Austin, Texas where, on December 16th of that year, Bill and Terri welcomed the birth of their daughter Tracie Ann. Bill was honorably discharged in 1968.

Thereafter, Bill embarked on a successful 45-year professional career in the computer/information high-tech sector working for some of the largest corporations, universities, and government agencies. During his career, Bill and his family lived in Laguna Niguel, California; Houston, Texas; and Detroit, Michigan where, on July 13, 1974, Bill and Terri welcomed the birth of their son Christopher Townsend.

Bill enjoyed traveling with his family on vacations and was an avid golfer and tennis player who competed in numerous amateur events. When Bill wasn't playing golf or tennis, he could be found with his son, Chris, riding dirt bikes at motocross events or with his daughter, Tracie, at racetracks where he drove Porsche Speedsters. But, above all, Bill will be remembered as a devoted loving father, grandfather, and loyal friend. His love, charm and dry wit will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Bill, preceded by his beloved English Sheepdogs Benson and Phoebe, is survived by his children, Tracie Vallance and husband Derrick, Christopher Hamlin and wife Kathleen; his grandchildren, Geraghty Alch, Tucker Alch, Christa Hamlin, Corey Skiba and Morgan Skiba; his brothers, Lawrence, Ronald, and Jeffery; and by many extended family members and close friends.
