Obituary

William A. "Bill" Colson, 78, of Cypress, Texas passed away peacefully at home on July 10, 2020 surrounded by family.

Bill was born in Bryan, Texas, on December 10, 1941 to the late Barry Davis Colson and Winnie Clary Colson. He grew up in Bryan and graduated from high school there in 1959, and from Sam Houston State with a degree in Business Administration. He sold filters in and around Houston for many years, owned a driving range and batting cage business in Houston, and a miniature golf course in College Station. In his retirement years he made many friends working at Black Horse Golf Club and representing Callaway at golf events.

An avid golfer from his youth, he once won the use of a new Cadillac for a year by hitting a hole in one at a tournament in Bryan. He also took the opportunity one year to participate in the National Senior Amateur Golf Tournament. He traveled to Scotland, not only because it was the birthplace of his ancestors, but because it was the birthplace of golf.

By far his proudest achievement was the family relationships he built with his wife of 40 years, Carole Black Colson. He rarely missed a birthday, school program, or a sports activity in which his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participated.

His parents and his sister, Sarita Brothers, predeceased him. He is survived by his beloved wife Carole, sisters Barrie Davis of Thomaston, Texas, Zan Colson Brown of Deer Park, Texas, daughters Stacey Scott and husband Troy Scott of Milford, Ohio, Sherri Nelson and husband Dr. David Nelson of Cypress, Texas, and Tammy Miller and husband Doug Miller of Stafford, Texas, grandchildren Ashley Lyn Sandman and husband Arnold, Brittani Lerick and husband Luke, Tyler Scott and wife Mindy, Christopher Nelson and wife Frankie, Madison Wigley, Matthew Nelson, Jonathon Wigley, Alyssa Handleton and husband Evan, and Bradley Nelson, 9 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 20155 Cypresswood Drive, Cypress, Texas 77433. Memorial service to begin at 11:00 a.m.
