William Young Cobb, Jr. born September 13, 1917 in Meridian, Mississippi, went to be with his Savior on April 13, 2022 in Tomball, Texas. He was preceded in death by this wife, Octavia Pogue Cobb, his parents, two brothers, one sister, and granddaughter, Tavia Louise Long. Papa, as he was known, leaves behind daughters and sons (he didn't consider them sons-in-law), Linda and Bob Voss, Patricia and Paul Trahan, and Donna and David Brook, grandchildren, Sharon and Allen Darden, Robb Voss, Billy and Tonya Long, Kimberly and Luke Stallings, and Jason Brook, great-grandchildren, Hunter Dennis, Riley Stallings, Dylan Long, Cady Voss, and Kasey Stallings. He will be missed by many friends.
Bill served his country as Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Air Force from August 21, 1941 to November 11, 1943. He worked as a weatherman for the National Weather Service for 40 years. He retired in 1977 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Bill was a member of Tomball United Methodist Church. He loved making wooden crafts and spent many hours making Jesus signs which he enjoyed handing out to anyone he ran into. His signs have traveled as far as California.
Bill enjoyed journaling and kept an account of his daily activities. He also was an avid genealogist. He has traced his ancestry back to the 14th century. In his later years, he enjoyed cracking pecans and kept his family and friends in many sacks of shelled pecans.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Shriners Hospital and St. Jude Hospital.
A celebration of his life will be held April 21, 2022, 10:00 am at Tomball United Methodist Church.
