William Leon Childers, born August 18, 1939 returned to our Lord after 78 years 8 months and 29 days on May 17, 2018.

Leon is preceded in death by his parents Jim and Gladys Childers, parents-in-law Joe and Mildred Kilgore, nephews Richard Wielkens, Jackie Childers, and Shannon Moring; and his beloved son, just this February, Wayne Leon Childers.

Leon is survived by:

-his beloved wife of 55 years Doris June Kilgore Childers

-his daughters Darlene June Childers Goehl and Malinda Marie Childers

-son-in-law Jeff Goehl and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Mishann Johnson Childers;

-his six grandchildren, Heather June Goehl-Hill; Trevor Colin Goehl; Rachel Lindsey Childers, Joseph William Childers, Megan Elizabeth Childers, and Brennan Wayne Childers.

-his grandson-in-law Matt Hill, and great-grandson Nash Hill.

-his brother Pat Childers, and his sisters Susie Schreiber, Joann Mayes, Elderine Childers Caballero, Linda Moring, and Jimmie Ruth Childers;

-his sisters-in-law Bettie Jo Washburn and Beverly Childers.

-Nieces, nephews, numerous other family, loved ones and friends.

The Childers family came to America in the 1600s and migrated south to Texas in the mid-1800s. Leon was born in Red River County, Texas and went to school in Johntown and Bogata, Texas. He continued with technical training and a college course. He worked at Parker Brothers Concrete Company for 17 years and then became an independent owner/operator for 18-wheel transport for the rest of his career.

Leon met his wife Doris at a graduation party and they were married on July 7, 1962.  They raised their family in Cypress, Texas, moved around some, and Leon ultimately settled down with his wife in Streetman, Texas to be nearer to his siblings. There, he was a member of the Kirvin Baptist Church.

Throughout Leon's life, he was most proud of his family (and maybe his dogs). He and his wife saw their son graduate from Sam Houston University, and their daughters graduate from Texas A&M. He also got to see his eldest 3 grandkids graduate college, and his youngest three grandkids enter university. He taught them by example to work hard, enjoy travel, have a laugh, and be loyal to their family.

He will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
