William Howard (Bill) Keefer

September 4, 1932 – October 10, 2022

William Howard (Bill) Keefer, age 90, of Houston, TX, died Monday, October 10, 2022, at Ella Springs Assisted Living in Houston, TX. He was born September 4, 1932, in Leon, WV, to Floyd and Theartha (King) Keefer. Bill met Marilyn (Joyce) Bakke at the roller-skating rink in Sparta, WI where he was stationed in the US Army. Bill and Marilyn were married December 12, 1953, at the Bethesda Lutheran Brethren Church parsonage in Westby, WI.

Bill and Marilyn lived numerous places over the years, but primarily resided in Westby, WI before moving to Houston, TX in 1983. They were faithful members of Hope Community Evangelical Covenant Church in Houston, TX. The church family always held a special place in his heart. Bill would be the first to share his testimony and the great joy his Lord and Savior brought to his later years. In his last months, it was his fervent prayer to go home to Jesus and be with Marilyn again.

Bill was a Korean War Veteran, proudly serving in the US Army from 1950 -1953 when he was honorably discharged. After the service, he worked primarily in the printing industry, beginning as an apprentice at the Vernon County Broadcaster in Viroqua, WI. Through the years, he worked at Rand McNally and Company in Hammond, IN; NCR in Viroqua, WI; LaCrosse Printing, in LaCrosse, WI; and as a four-color pressman at several printing companies after moving to the Houston, TX area.

He is survived by his children: daughter and son-in-law Heidi and John Hines, Houston, TX; son Bruce, Picayune, MS; son and daughter-in-law Brian and Yong, Denver, CO; daughter and son-in-law Robin and Jeff Carey, Park Rapids, MN; grandchildren Holly (Brandon) Bretzke, TX, Trey (Shana) Hines, VA, Allison (Travis) Haik, MS, Andrew (Jessica) Keefer, WA, Kasandra Page, CO, Jeremiah Page, CO, Will Keefer, CO; great grandchildren Hayley and Skyler, TX; Chloe, VA; Aviana, Zoey, and Logan, MS; Bradford and Bramwell, LA; Nora, Zephy, Xavier, and Margaret, CO; great-great grandson Jordan, TX; sister Lily (Keefer) Browning, Point Pleasant, WV; sisters-in-law Irene (Iverson) Bakke, Janesville, WI, and Sarah (Matthew) Keefer; Gallipolis, OH; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
