Willard Reaves' Obituary
Willard Savage Reaves, born November 2, 1931 in Wilcox County near Camden, Alabama, died on September 27, 2018. Will was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, Ginny Marshall. He is survived by his children, Jeff, Diana, Amy, and Cody, their spouses, Mariellen, Bruce, John and Sandra, and his 11 grandchildren, Zach, Nick, Chris, Kaleigh, Madison, Tara, Abby, Sydney, Matt, Will, and Emily. Will was raised on a cotton farm in Alabama along with 11 brothers and sisters and two first cousins. He is also survived by his big brother Charles Reaves, his four sisters, Frances Gaines, Polly Fairley, Fabris Dunham and Linda Luker, and many nieces and nephews. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War conflict, Will studied at Troy University and set eyes for the first time on Ginny. They married and moved to Auburn, Alabama where he graduated from Auburn University with a chemical engineering degree. Upon graduation, they moved to the Houston, Texas area and Will started his career in the oil and gas industry as a chemical engineer. He later co-founded KinOTrol that was then at the forefront of the integration of hybrid computer simulation and the oil and gas industry. In the early 60s, he and Ginny immersed themselves into the political scene, volunteering and fundraising for local candidates and Will even threw his hat into the ring in one of the State Representative races. He and Ginny retired to New Ulm, Texas where they literally built their final home and enjoyed beautiful sunsets and visits from their family and friends. Will was an affectionate, gregarious, generous and very kind father, brother and friend who loved traveling in Mexico and Europe, going to Oiler football games with his dear friend Calvin, following Auburn football, reading about history, and drinking his rum and cokes from his wraparound porch as the sun set. Will was always a positive force and we will miss him dearly. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, October 4, at 11 at the Houston National Cemetery. Special thanks to Regent Care Center in The Woodlands and Columbus Nursing Home in Columbus, Texas whose staff provided care and comfort to Will the last few years of his life.
