Wesley Ray Thompson, Jr. of Spring, Texas passed away early Sunday morning on June 3, 2018, after a struggle with cancer.

Wesley was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 28, 1945 to Wesley Ray and Doris (Eutsler) Thompson.  Wesley's father was serving during WWII in Germany at the time of his birth and Wesley did not meet his dad until he was 9 months old.  After the war, the family lived in Oregon, Washington, and California.  They settled to Bartlesville, Ok in 1951, with their extended family living in the area.  Wesley was a polio survivor and was hospitalized in Tulsa in 1951 for several months.

The family moved to Dewey, Ok. in 1954. Wesley graduated from Dewey High School, Class of 1964 and went on to graduate from Oklahoma State at Okmulgee in PetroChemical Piping Design.  He was hired right out of college in 1966 to go to work at Brown and Root in Houston where he worked until he was drafted by the US Army in 1969 and sent to VietNam.  He was discharged in 1971 and resumed his employment at Brown and Root.  He worked for Aker Kvaerner for 37 years before retiring in 2009.  He had the opportunity to work in places such as Mumbai, India and Beijing, China during his very fulfilling career.

Wesley enjoyed extensive travel throughout his life.  He visited amazing places including the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower, and the Vatican.  European trips fed his love of architecture.  But his favorite travels included national parks, camping, and mountain trails with his family.  He visited every state in the Union, but as we all know, Colorado was his favorite.  Wes also had a passion for old cars and carpentry.  He spent much of his free time in his cherished garage, rebuilding classic vehicles and hand crafting furniture.

His survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mary Gwosdz Thompson of Spring, Texas.  Daughter, Sarah Thompson, of College Station, Texas. Grandson, Zane Brown of College Station, Texas.  Sister, Karen Thompson Sparks and her husband Ross, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  Other survivors include, Kathy and Wayne Holdgraf, Carolyn and Danny Koop, Virginia and Patrick Wagner, Gertrude Gwosdz, John Hertz, Margaret Gwosdz, Evelyn Eisman, and Lorraine  and Steve Hebert, and their families.

Services will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 7810 Cypresswood Drive, Spring, Texas 77379.  Visitation starts at 10am, Mass at 11am in the Lady Chapel, and Burial at Houston National Cemetery at 12:45 pm.
