Werner Joe Pratka's Obituary
Werner J. Pratka, 87, passed away on November 2, 2017, in Houston, Texas.
Werner was born on February 6, 1930, in La Grange, Texas, to John and Elfrieda (Ruckert) Pratka. He attended grade school in La Grange, Texas, before moving to Houston. He graduated from John H. Reagan High School in Houston where he played baseball for the high school team. Upon graduation, he enrolled at Rice University and was a member of the Rice baseball team. After attending Rice for three years, he transferred to the University of North Texas in Denton and obtained his degree in business administration.
After graduating from North Texas, he received a commission as a Lieutenant (JG) in the Navy and was assigned to the Great Lakes Naval Training Station in Chicago. Later, he was sent to the Pacific Theater of Operations during the Korean War where he spent time in Hawaii and Japan.
Upon receiving his discharge from the Navy, Werner returned to Houston and was employed by Price Waterhouse accounting firm and later worked for Schlumberger. After retiring from Schlumberger, he operated his own private CPA practice.
Werner enjoyed attending and watching baseball, football, golfing, horse races, and visiting Las Vegas.
He is survived by his former wife, Dolores (Irving) Pratka, a daughter, Dee Ann Pratka, a son, Stephen Pratka, a brother, Robert Pratka, all of Houston, and a number of nieces and nephews. Also Granddog Bode.
Werner was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lawrence Pratka.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a favorite charity of their choice in memory of Werner Pratka.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am with Funeral services following at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 9th , at Klein Funeral Home (Cy-Fair Northwest) located at 9719 Wortham Blvd, Houston TX followed by graveside services at Houston National Cemetery.
