Welton Roger Whitley Jr went home to be with Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior on December 17, 2020 at the age of 78. Roger, "Big Rog", "Honey", "Hon", "The King", was a kind and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, friend and mentor to his family and friends.
Roger was a born-again Christian that practiced his faith on a daily basis. He was a long-time church leader, deacon, Bible teacher, counselor, and mentor at Fairfield Baptist Church in Cypress, TX. He will be missed by many for his Bible knowledge, teaching abilities, his quick wit and humor, and loving counsel.
Roger was born in Isle of Wight County, Virginia on January 6, 1942 to Welton Roger Whitley, Sr and Sarah Louise Butler Whitley. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother R. Alvin Whitley. He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Kay Whitley; daughter Lisa W. Smith, her husband Norm and their daughter Kasey; son Rodney Whitley and wife Kristi; son Welton R. Whitley, III, his wife Tammy, and Welton's sons Roger and Jonathan. Roger is also survived by his sister Barbara Barnes; and brother John R. Whitley and his wife Judy.
Roger firmly believed that being absent from the body meant being present with the Lord. His desire was that ALL would know the Jesus that he called Lord. He is waiting in Heaven for those of us who know HIM to be there too.
