Wayne Leon Childers, born January 19, 1964 returned to our Lord after 54 years on February 9, 2018. Wayne is preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Mildred Kilgore, Jim and Gladys Childers, cousins, Richard Wielkens, Jackie Childers, and Shannon Moring, and father-in-law, Joe Wayne Johnson.
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Elizabeth Mishann Johnson Childers, his four loving children, daughter, Rachel Lindsey Childers, son, Joseph William Childers, daughter, Megan Elizabeth Childers, and son, Brennan Wayne Childers, mother and father, William Leon Childers and Doris June Kilgore Childers of Streetman, TX, sister, Darlene Childers Goehl and husband Jeff Goehl of College Station, sister, Malinda Marie Childers of Houston, mother-in-law, Elizabeth Ann Johnson, brother-in-law and wife, Forrest Wayne Johnson and Jessica Stutes-Johnson of Vidor, niece, Heather Goehl Hill and husband Matt Hill, nephews, Trevor Goehl, James Johnson, Mason Johnson, Ethan Johnson, and Nash Hill, as well as dear Aunts, Uncle, cousins, numerous other family, loved ones and friends.
Wayne and Mishann met in Houston in 1987 working for AMC Theaters and were married on May 18, 1991. Wayne graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville in 1991 and was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Wayne was very committed to his fraternity and maintained his relationship with not only his brothers during his college years, but continued to mentor and lead in the alumni and active fraternal group long after he graduated.
Wayne worked for AMC Theaters for 31 years and had recently left the theater business to pursue his dream of owning his own business as a professional Home Inspector. Wayne still managed to stay involved in the movie business by working with the Houston International Film Festival "Worldfest-Houston" every year, an endeavor he felt passionate about. Throughout his life, Wayne has not only been committed to leading himself in a professional manner, but always looked to help others by his actions and words. He was always looking for opportunities to help his friends and family, in small and large ways, whether it was buying a car for his sister because it was just something she needed, or sitting and talking with a young employee working for him to help them thru a difficult time. He never missed a soccer game, band event, football practice or any other activity his children were involved in and was so excited to spend time with them now that they were entering young adulthood. The number of lives Wayne touched is too numerous to count but all share stories of his incredible patience, generosity and calm nature. He had a wonderful humorous side that those close to him had the opportunity to experience.
Throughout all of Wayne's life, it wasn't his personal accomplishments that made him the proudest. Instead, it was truly in seeing the fruits of his efforts blossom in his family and the camaraderie, fellowship, and friendships he and Mishann created along the path of their life together. Anyone who had the privilege of meeting him was enriched with his eager willingness to impart any wisdom and kindness he had to offer. His selfless service to his fellow man and to Our Lord God and Jesus Christ exemplified how rich a life can be. He will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
