Wayland Russell Madden was born on December 5, 1946, in Corsicana, Texas, to E.C. "Cotton" Madden and Lena Mae Doolen Madden. He lived in Corsicana until his 6 ^th birthday when the Madden family moved to Sweeny, Texas. He attended Sweeny schools throughout his school career and played saxophone in the marching band. He also served as the band vice president.

Throughout his childhood, he attended First Baptist Church where at 9 years old, he gave his heart to the Lord. Wayland was a proud graduate of the class of 1965. He then attended and received an Associate's Degree from Wharton County Junior College, followed by attending Sam Houston State University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He then moved to Houston.

During his career, he was employed by the IBM Corporation and worked in the automobile industry for 3 years. Wayland then transitioned to work for Fluor Engineering for a brief time before landing in healthcare business office administration. For the remainder of his career, he worked in this industry.

While attending First Baptist Church in Houston, he met Bettye Maye Hawks, who he married in May of 1973. Wayland and Bettye were active members of the church choir. In September of 1977, Wayland and Bettye were blessed with their only child, Stephanie Elise. Many relationships were formed and special memories were made while raising Stephanie. Patrick Worchesik joined the family in 2005 when he and Stephanie were married. For a period of 10 years, Wayland and Bettye were active members of The Church of the Holy Apostles in Katy.

After moving to Cypress, Texas, in 2009, Wayland and Bettye were blessed with two grandchildren, Kennedy Elise and Peyton Madden. In recent years, Wayland has lovingly been called Papa and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of his time with them. Kennedy and Peyton have been his whole world. While living in Cypress, Wayland and Bettye found a new church home in Second Baptist Cypress. Wayland enjoyed weekly lunches at Willie's with the senior church staff where good conversations were always on the menu. In more recent months, his diagnosis with cancer interfered with his ability to be as active as he once was.

After a heroic battle with peritoneal cancer, Wayland was called to his eternal home the morning of February 3, 2021. He leaves behind a beloved wife of 47 years, a devoted daughter and son-in-law, two beautiful grandchildren, a loving sister, and countless relatives and friends.

Alvarez with Oncology Consultants, Dr. Joseph Cali, Jr. with UT Physicians and his longtime attending physician, Dr. David Reininger for their outstanding medical care. The family would also like to thank the amazing staff of Providence Home Health & Hospice and Cornerstone Caregivers for their expertise in helping make his final days peaceful.
