Obituary

Walter M. Villars, 92, died peacefully on Sunday, November 15, 2020.  Loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone he met.  Walter was born at home, in New Orleans, Louisiana to Bessie Howard and Gaston Villars in the 9th ward.  Walter was the middle child. He had an older brother, Gerald and a younger sister Ruby Dee.  Walter played high school football at Nichols High School and excelled in all sports. After high school he went on to college at Tulane University on a 4 year football scholarship and graduated in 1950 with a BS in secondary education. While at Tulane he joined the army reserves.

After college he went to work for Texaco.  While working he met the love of his life a pretty little Cajun beauty from Houma, Louisiana named Gloria Babin.  They were soon married and began a wonderful life together.  Walter and Gloria moved many times as Walter was transferred throughout his 42 year career with Texaco.  They lived in New Orleans, LA, Nashville, TN, where their two children were born, New Orleans, LA again, Atlanta, GA, Denver, CO, New Canaan, Conn, where Walter worked in New York City, Atlanta, GA, again, then finally Houston, TX.  After retiring from Texaco he and Gloria did some traveling and went on cruises to Alaska and Hawaii.

Walter and Gloria were married 60 years.  They enjoyed their many friends with Texaco.  Walter enjoyed life, he loved his family and grandchildren immensely.  He enjoyed a good cold beer, a good steak and he loved people!

Walter is survived by his children, daughter, Tammy and husband John, son Walter Jr. and wife Alma; g randchildren,  Lauren and husband Adam, Brittany, Walter III and wife Mallory, and Ali; and g reat grandsons, twins, Bryson and Ryland

Rest In Peace dad, well done, good and faithful servant.  Your family loves you.  You will forever live in our hearts.
