Walter Sims McKinney was born in San Angelo, Texas, on September 21, 1924. He died on April 13, 2018, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 93. He was the son of Roy & Beatrice McKinney. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara (Wallace) McKinney, and five children, 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Walter was an avid photographer and a World War II veteran. He was a long-time member of Champions Forest Baptist Church – Jersey Village, where he had served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He had a love for missions and volunteered his time for mission work both here and abroad, including Costa Rica and the Ukraine.
Walter had a love of thunderstorms and sunsets. He was a man who enjoyed working with his hands and fellowshipping with his friends. He enjoyed building wooden projects for his dear wife. He touched many lives at work and at church with his gentle grace. His friends would say that he was a man who lived out his convictions.
Walter was a godly man who is now with the God he adored.
Handwritten note of Walter's found by his daughter, Cathy Metcalf:
Lord give me patience! When I am hurried, give me peace, When I am frustrated, give me perspective, When I am angry, let me turn my heart to You!
