Walter Darrell Etherington

January 19, 1943 – February 5, 2019

Walter Darrell Etherington, 76, was born on January 19, 1943 in McAllen, TX to Walter H. Etherington and Geraldine White. He went to be with the Lord on February 5,, 2019.

Darrell was preceded in death by his son, Edward Etherington. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lana Etherington, his children Kevin Etherington, Darren Etherington, Dalton Etherington and Wife Dana, Julia Gravis and Husband, Aaron. Grandchildren - Chloe Etherington, Ty Gravis, Abigail Etherington, Mason Etherington, Lauren Etherington, Grayson Etherington, Knox Etherington, Aniston Etherington, Nash Gravis, and Briggs Gravis.

Darrell's earliest memories are of his beloved Grandmother, Julia Ann, caring for him in rural Ponca City, OK for many years imprinting lasting memories of love he would often recall throughout his life.  He loved to tell stories to this younger generation recalling how she would spend hours churning butter, and the true meaning of an "ice box".  He spent his formative years overseas traveling with his father, Walter (Vice President at Sedco Drilling Company) throughout the Middle East wherever the oilfield booms would take them.  Darrell attended grade school in Karachi, Pakistan and ended up finishing high school at the American Community School in Beirut, Lebanon.  He returned to the United States to attend college, and graduated from the University of New Mexico, all to follow in his father's footsteps chasing black gold throughout the eastern hemisphere.  He married Stella and they had three sons together, Kevin, Darren and Edward.  He lived in Iran and Dubai and traveled abroad to many places including China, Russia, South America, Africa, Australia.  After his divorce he met Lana in Dubai where she worked at Pan American Airlines.  They got married in Las Vegas, Nevada and lived in Dubai where they had their son Dalton.  On his return to Texas he had his only daughter Julia Ann who was born in Tomball, Texas.

He worked for Williams Tool Company and Weatherford International while in the U.S.  He was very well respected and trusted and known as a man who would go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver what was promised.  As a family man, he was a caretaker.  A selfless husband and father who put everyone's needs and safety before his own.  Throughout his struggle with cancer he never complained once.  His only concern was his hope to be strong enough to continue caring for his family.  We will love and miss him forever.  Rest in peace in God's loving arms and save us all a place in heaven.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Northside Christian Church in Spring, TX.
