Obituary

Virginia Schafer, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Hands To Lend Assisted Living in Houston, Texas.  Virginia was born on October 4, 1930 to Clarence and Cecil Mae Hill in Cushing, Oklahoma.  She was raised on the family farm during the depression and was proud of her Oklahoma roots.  She loved to tell stories about her early life on the farm with her brother, Wade, and her sister, Fern.  Her family were members of the Council Valley Baptist Church in Cushing and she graduated from Council Valley High School.  After high school, she attended Oklahoma State University where she met her future husband, Herb Schafer.  Virginia and Herb were married in 1950 and shortly after, they move to Tulsa, Oklahoma and raised two children.  They moved overseas and lived in several countries over a twenty-year span, including, Australia, Singapore and Indonesia.

Virginia loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Champion Forest Baptist Church for over 40 years.  Virginia belonged to a bridge club and was an avid duplicate bridge player.  She loved working in her garden and was well-known in her neighborhood for her beautiful array of flowers.  She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.  She was a fan of the Houston Rockets and Astros, and watched nearly every game she could.  After moving back from Indonesia, she worked for Macy's department store in Houston for 20 years.  She loved fashion and became a Ralph Lauren specialist at Macy's.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Herbert Edward Schafer, II; her sister, Fern Woods; and her brother, Wade Hill.  Virginia is survived by her children, Lisa Schafer and Bryan Schafer.  She will be laid to rest with her husband at Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Virginia's name can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
