Obituary

Virgie Mae Hart-Tabers, 67, died Sunday, November 18, 2018 at her home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Virgie was born in Italy, Texas on July 12, 1951.  She grew up in Mexia, Texas and then later moved to Houston, Texas.  On December 16, 2000 she married James Arthur and they were married for 18 years.

She was a 29 year veteran with the Harris County Sheriff's Department.  When she began her career with the Sheriff's Department she was one of very few women who worked as a deputy.  She worked patrol on the night shift and toward the end of her career she began teaching RAD classes (self-defense) classes for women.  She was very sympathetic to women and children who were victims of domestic abuse.  She always had toys for children in the trunk of her patrol car so that she could give them to the children that she encountered when she was working.

Virgie is preceded in death by her mother, Paralee Tabers, her brother Melvin Tabers Jr, her daughter Vickie Lynn Smith and two grandchildren, Daniel Wayne Smith and Donald Wayne Hunt.  She is survived by her husband James Arthur, sisters Joyce Stevenson and Kay Heard, son David Hart and wife Noemi, daughter Shana Milburn and husband Andy, son Donald Hart Jr, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Viewing and visitation will be Friday November 30, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home, 14711 FM 1488, Magnolia, TX 77354.  Memorial service will be on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all our family and friends who have reached out during this difficult time.  Special thanks to Nurse Michelle and her caregiver, Diana, who took such good care of our loved one.
