Vincent Francis Calicchia Sr., age 89, of Houston, TX, formally from Brooklyn, NY, and Massapequa Park, NY, passed away in his home in Cypress, TX, surrounded by family Friday, March 24, 2023.
Vince (Jimmy) was born June 3, 1933, in Brooklyn, NY. He was the youngest of six born to Alesandro and Rosina Calicchia. He attended PS 45 in Brooklyn, Brooklyn Technical High School, and The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, a private college at Cooper Square in New York City. He was drafted into the army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1955, having served as a PFC(T) (engineering) and receiving the National Defense service medal. After completing his military service, Vince reconnected with friends, and returned to Cooper Union. One of the people he reconnected with was Patricia Raymond. Their 18-month courtship began with a first date to see Annie Get Your Gun on Broadway. They were married in 1959 at Old St. Patrick's Church in Brooklyn, NY.
Vince and Pat moved to Massapequa Park, NY, where Vince completed his Bachelor of Science (Engineering) degree at Cooper Union at night. He worked days at John Graham, and eventually at CRS while he helped Pat raise their children. While in Massapequa Park, Vince was active in local politics and the Sons of Italy.
In 1976, CRS moved the Calicchia family to Houston, Texas, where Pat and Vince raised their four children and became well-integrated into their community and church. They actively supported their children in various activities, including baseball, soccer, and bowling. In addition, Vince was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church choir and served as president of the Keenagers senior group.
Vince and Pat's family continued to grow as their four children got married and had children of their own. Vince took his role of proud grandpa seriously by cheering at ball games, theater performances, concerts, grand-parent days, orchestra and choir performances, swimming, and graduations. He even sang "When You Are Smiling" with his granddaughter, Evin, at a local venue.
He retired from Burns, Delatte & McCoy. His retirement was spent traveling with Pat and enjoying time with his family.
Vince loved a good playful debate, and he always made Friday Family Pizza night fun.
Vince is survived by his wife, Patricia Raymond Calicchia, brother Natale Calicchia; children: Judith DeWeese (Mark), Susan Flood (Ray), Alexander Calicchia (Katy), Vincent Calicchia Jr. (Robin); grandchildren: Vincent DeWeese, Raymond Flood (Kristen), Meghan Flood, Madison Calicchia, Evin Calicchia, Maddox Calicchia, Britton DeWeese (Cathy), Kimberly Snead (James), great-grandchildren Raymond and Raymond's yet to be born sibling.
