Obituary

Vernon Gerald Lowery, age 92, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, known to all as "Poppa".  He passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026, holding the hands of his daughters.

He was born on January 3, 1934 to M. O. (Bill) and Lenna Grace Lowery in Addicks, Texas.

He grew up in a farming family, where he learned love, respect, devotion and faith in God, as well as his work ethic. He farmed rice and soybeans with his father and brothers starting in the late 1940's. M. O. Lowery and Sons tamed the Katy Prairie with their old D6 dozer, JI Case and John Deere tractors. By the late 70's, M. O. Lowery and Sons were one of the largest rice farmers in Harris County with 5,000 acres under seed from Cypress to Katy. Hard work was all they knew.  His son, Kenneth joined them in the field until they retired in 1998. In his retirement, he enjoyed going to all of his grandkids activities, working on tractors, going to antique tractor and engine shows to exhibit his antique engines with his brother Jimmy and watching girls' sports on tv with Mommo.

Family and friends were everything to him. Poppa loved fiercely and gave freely to those in need. If you were a friend, you quickly became family in his eyes.  When he talked to you, it wasn't to make small talk.  He genuinely wanted to know how you were doing and what you had been up too.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Lynita of 47 ½ years; his children, Richard (Megan) Lowery, Kenneth (Kelli) Lowery, Phyllis Rogers and Alana Curry; his grandchildren, Justin Rogers, Kevin (Keeli) Rogers, Timothy (Sarah) Lowery, Andrew (Megan) Lowery, Evan (Courtney) Curry, Audrey Curry and Tyler Lowery; his great-grandchildren, Cora, KJ and Molly Rogers, Sophia Lowery, Cassie and Lainey Curry and one more great-granddaughter who is due to arrive on his birthday; brother Brian Lowery, special friends Jack and Beverly Smith, as well as many other family members and friends.

Gerald was preceded in death by both his parents, his brothers; Bubba, Jimmy and his twin, Derrol, as well as his son-in-law Stanton Rogers, nephews Michael Lowery and David Sowers and great niece, Melissa Ward Garza.

Pallbearers are Justin Rogers, Kevin Rogers, Timothy Lowery, Andrew Lowery, Evan Curry, and Tyler Lowery.
