Vernon Ray Layton was born August 7, 1946 and passed away on December 31, 2022. He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth Gayle Bearden Layton and his parents, Milton Layton and Gladys Matthews Layton.  Vernon is survived by his three children, son Christopher D. Layton and daughter-in-law Kimberly, son Ronald W. Layton, and daughter Penny L. Layton Oelschlegel and son-in-law Jason, along with two grandchildren, Madelynn Jewel and Colton Charles Oelschlegel.  Vernon is also survived by his five siblings, sister Barbara Layton Goheen and husband Robert of Florida, sister Shirley Layton Smith and husband Donnie of Louisiana, sister Betty Layton Lamb of Louisiana, sister Donna Layton Aubrey and husband Robbie of Louisiana, and brother Roger Layton and wife Linda of Louisiana.  He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a steadfast friend to all who knew him.

Vernon was a strong Christian man, serving many years as a deacon in the Baptist Church and raising his family to know the love of Jesus Christ.  He is now rejoicing in Heaven, along with his beautiful wife and his loving parents. His family and friends, while heartbroken over his earthly passing, find peace in knowing he is no longer bound to his earthly sufferings and will now spend an eternity with our Lord Jesus.

Upon Vernon's wishes, the family has chosen cremation.  He will return home to Louisiana for a memorial service which will be held January 14, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church of Vivian, LA. 311 N. Pine Street, Vivian, LA 71082
