Obituary

Vernon (Vern) Rodney Hupman was born at Summerville Centre, Nova Scotia, Canada on October 7th, 1927

In October of 1952 he married Catherine (Kay) Alberta Manthorne of Milton, Nova Scotia, Canada. In 1957 they had a daughter, Donna Lynn. In 1960, they welcomed a son, Paul Michael. Vern enjoyed the pleasure of seeing his children married, Donna, to Brett Hainley, and Paul, to Mary Della-Calce. He was a loving grandfather to Lauren Hainley, and Derek and Jennifer Pittmon, children of his children's spouses from previous marriage. He was preceded in death in 1999 by Kay, after forty-five years of marriage. In his early life he was a golf greenskeeper at a number of clubs in Nova Scotia, finishing at the Canadian Pacific Digby Pines Resort and Golf Club. While in Digby he took night classes in bookkeeping and eventually moved into the accounting department. In the fall of 1957, he was transferred to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. After three years in the Hotel business in Calgary he went to work with Canyon Meadows Golf club as an accountant and in the meantime received his degree as a Registered  Industrial Accountant from the University of Alberta in 1964, winning a gold medal for his scholastic achievements. In 1966 he received a Business Administration Diploma from Mount Royal College, Calgary. In May of 1966 Vern was transferred by his company (Mandrel Industries Inc,) to Houston, as a Cost Accountant. After 3 years Vern went to work for Sline Industrial Painters as Controller, a position he held for three years before returning to Mandrel Industries which had now had become Geosource Inc. Vern remained at Gesource through many changes, including a stint as controller for a subsidiary called Geofrac, in Seguin, Texas. Geosource was eventually purchased by Halliburton Inc. and ceased to become a corporate entity. He finished his years in Houston as Accounting Manager with Halliburton retiring in 1992 after 30 some years with Mandrel and subsequent companies. He is survived by his daughter Donna and son in law Brett, son Paul and wife Mary.

Also his grandchildren Lauren, Derek, and Jennifer and her husband Chad, and their son, Ames. He is also survived by sisters Grace of Ontario, Canada, and Jean and Audrey, both of Nova Scotia, Canada.
