Van Hess Mummert passed away at his home on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the age of 66. He was born on August 1, 1951 in Hanover, Pennsylvania. His family later relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where Van graduated from Broadmoor High School. After high school, Van went on to earn a degree in business from Louisiana State University. During his time at LSU, Van served as president of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha, and developed an unwavering love for his fraternity and alma mater.

On a blind date in 1971, he met the love of his life, Kathy. Van and Kathy were married for 42 years and had three children and six grandchildren.

Van's interests were varied. He was a keen LSU fan, Houston Oilers enthusiast, and enjoyed playing golf in his younger years. He found most joy in spending time with family and friends. Some of his fondest memories included LSU football and tailgating at Tiger Stadium with his family. Van had a successful career in sales, most notably with major corporations Dictaphone, Kimberly Clark, and RCA.

Van is survived by his wife, Kathy, his three children; Colleen and her husband Craig Julien, Michelle and her husband David Beauboeuf, Michael and his fiancée Claudia San Juan and his sister Nan Bowen.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Lisa and Arthur Brandenburg, Lester Mummert, son-in-law Gordon Jones, and his beloved boxer, Rocky.

The Mummert family would like to thank the medical professionals at the Center for Advanced Heart Failure at Hermann Memorial hospital in Houston, especially Dr. Sriram Nathan, M.D. and Amita Sarolla, R.N., LVAD coordinator. We would like to express our deepest gratitude for their tireless dedication, genuine care, and efforts to prolong Van's life.
