Truman Thornton Stone

(July 23, 1945 – April 11, 2021)

Truman Thornton Stone joined his Heavenly Father on April 11, 2021 at the age of 75.  Truman was born on July 23, 1945 in Madisonville, Texas to Tally and Erma Stone.  He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Wilton West.  He is survived by Jo Ann Stone, his wife of 54 years, daughter Melissa Mince, brother James Stone, mother-in-law Mary Mabry Boyd, brother-in-law, Edward Mabry, son-in-law Jim Mince, cousin James Fraley, and several nieces and nephews.

Truman grew up in Madisonville, Texas.  After graduating in 1963, he worked drilling water wells and then entered the U.S. Army in the summer of 1966.  He married Jo Ann in September of 1966 after completion of Basic Training.  While in the Army, he was stationed in several places in the U.S. before ultimately being deployed to Korea in 1967.

He was forced to return home in 1969 after suffering a serious injury to his right leg received in the process of administering first aid to a wounded officer, for which he received the Soldier's Medal for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy.

After returning from Korea, Truman spent a year in the military hospital at Ft. Sam Houston before attending college at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.  He graduated in 1972 earning a degree in Accounting.  In 1973, Truman moved his family to Houston, Texas.  He worked for National Convenience Stores for over 10 years.  First working in the stores, then becoming a store manager, a district rep, and finally the supervisor of the maintenance group.  Eventually, he decided to put his accounting degree to use when he began his career as a Revenue Agent with the IRS where he spent 26 years serving America's taxpayers before retiring in 2010.

Truman had many interests throughout his life.  During his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and road-trip vacations.  Later in life, he was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, watching movies, and playing with his pets.  Family and friends brought him comfort and joy throughout his life.  It was deep within his character to go out of his way to help others, especially those he loved.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
