Troy was born May 25, 1941 in Houston, Texas. He attended Eugene Field Elementary School, Hamilton Junior High School, then later moved to Tomball, Texas (Decker Prairie) to attend and graduate Tomball High School, class of 1959. While there, he played football and made lifetime friends. He often referred to his time at Tomball High School as the "best years of his life". He would later attend various colleges and universities.

His love for adventure and the great outdoors led him through many different vocations and hobbies which included owning and operating Davis and Davis Automotive Parts, a pipeline right-a-way mowing business, insurance and car sales and later he was an "over the road" 18-wheel truck driver which allowed him to see and visit many beautiful places. The things closest to his heart were his family, his love for animals, especially his beloved Schnauzers. Troy also deeply enjoyed all types of hunting, as well as fishing from the Gulf of Mexico to fly fishing in Wyoming. He loved drag racing his 1969 Dodge Charger 500 race car and held the world record time for a quarter mile in his class for 3 months. He also dreamed of someday racing in the Indy 500. He enjoyed meeting new people, greeting them with a smile and a charming sense of humor. He would always end his visits with the phrase "keep in touch". His favorite quote in life being "I've never seen a U-Haul behind a hearse!"

Troy is survived by his son Gary Davis and wife Martha, grandchildren Angela and husband Mason, Heather and husband Michael, great grandchildren Graham and Marshall, his brother Norman Davis and wife Shirley, nephew Norman Jr.,  his sister Kay Roberts and husband John.

Troy is preceded in death by his parents Homer and Nellie Davis, Paula Davis, son Jon Martin Davis, Elsie Davis and Franna Davis.
