Tracy Thomas Meier, March 10, 1957 – March 10, 2024

Tracy Thomas Meier passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her husband and children on the morning of March 10, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. It was her 67th birthday.

Tracy was born in Houston, Texas on March 10, 1957, to Dorothy and John Gilbert Thomas, as the oldest of three children. She always said she had the perfect childhood, with parents who loved her and made the time to put their family first, and some of her favorite childhood memories were their family trips to the beach.

After graduating from Waltrip High School, Tracy attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. During their freshman year, she met her sweetheart, Kevin Meier, who first noticed her in a religion class because the professor would often ask her to read out loud to hear her Texan accent. Kevin made the first move by calling her on March 10, 1976, not knowing it was her 19th birthday. Tracy and Kevin wrote to each other often during his two-year mission in South America, and they were married in the Salt Lake City temple on December 19, 1978. Their marriage was full of love and laughter, and they were truly best friends for over 45 years. They were perfect examples of how to show kindness and selflessness in marriage and how to put your spouse first.

After graduation, they excitedly moved to Houston where Kevin started his career, and together they started their family. Tracy soon became pregnant with her oldest son. He was shortly followed by two more boys and finally two girls.

Tracy loved motherhood. Her children were her world, and she was adored by them. She was always grateful that she had the opportunity to stay home with her kids. She supported her children fully, showing up at every sporting event, buying them strange pets, and staying up way too late playing games that often ended in fits of laughter. Each of her children knew with certainty that they were loved and that she was proud of them.

Watching her children grow up and become parents was the joy of Tracy's life, and she loved their spouses like they were her own children. Somehow, she was an even better grandmother than mother, and she was blessed with 18 beautiful grandchildren. She spent the last 12 years of her life making sure every one of them knew just how special they were to her. She threw the most fun parties, showed up at every event possible, and always found time to play games and read stories. She travelled often to visit her grandchildren who lived outside of Texas, and she spent hours on FaceTime when she could not be with them. They all love her dearly and know without a doubt that she loved them.

Tracy will be most remembered as a tremendous spouse, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. She had a unique laugh that could light up any room. She was known for making everyone feel loved and like they were family. Some of her favorite activities were going to movies, traveling to see her grandchildren, going on cruises with her beloved husband, and spending time at the beach with her family.

She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many different capacities, but her favorite was teaching early morning seminary to the youth. She served in the temple faithfully and had unshakable faith in her Savior Jesus Christ. She taught by example as she kept the two great commandments to love God and to love your neighbor.

Tracy is survived by her loving husband Kevin Meier who spent the last 18 months taking tremendous care of her, her children Kevin (Morgan), Jared (Chelsey), Adam (Katie), Ashley, and Brittney (Benvindo Mabiala); and her siblings John (Kay) Thomas and Kelle (Gordon) Maisey. She will be dearly missed by her 18 grandchildren and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that adore her. She is preceded in death by her loving parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 21521 Fairfield Place Dr., Cypress, Texas 77433. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, at Klein Funeral Homes, 9719 Wortham Blvd., Houston, Texas 77065.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
