It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Albert Romz, 83 of Houston TX, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather. He peacefully departed from this earthly life and entered eternal rest on July 26th, 2023.
Tom was born on May 18th, 1940 to Albert and Sarafina Romz in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Lane Technical High School in 1958. He attended college at night, while also working full-time, graduating from Bradley University with a degree in Chemistry in 1964. After graduation, Tom was hired as a Research and Development Chemist for DeSoto Chemical Company.
He met Judy Durlak in 1965 while on a ski trip in Michigan. They were married on May 6th, 1967. Their daughter, Bethe Ann, was born in August, 1968. Their son, Mark Thomas, was born in June, 1970.
While working at DeSoto, he began attending night school again, studying for an MBA in Marketing. He earned his master's degree from Loyola University in Chicago in 1975.
In the fall of 1970 he began a twenty year career as a Marketing Manager for Borden Chemical. At the beginning of 1990 he accepted a position at IGI Baychem, and the family moved to Houston, TX.
Tom retired at the age of 65. He had many interests including building and flying remote controlled airplanes, and playing golf. He took up bridge, attaining the rank of Life Master in 2015, and eventually reaching the level of Ruby Life Master. He was a life-long woodworker. His projects ranged from ornate boxes to dining room tables. He and Judy enjoyed traveling, seeing the country by car and also taking cruises everywhere from Alaska to the Rhine River in Germany. A member of Prince of Peace Catholic Community, Tom was an usher captain and an active member of the Knights of Columbus.
Thomas Romz was predeceased by Albert and Sarafina Romz, whose memories he carried with him throughout his life. Their reunion in heaven must surely be a source of great comfort and joy.
He is survived by Judy Romz, his loving wife of 56 years of marriage, his children Bethe Ann Bugbee (husband Richard) and Mark Thomas Romz (wife Jennifer), and his adoring grandchildren David Bugbee, Cecilia Bugbee and Alexandra Romz, and his brother Paul Romz. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion that will continue to inspire generations to come.
The funeral service to honor the life of Thomas Romz will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, located at 19222 249 State Highway, Houston, TX 77070, on Tuesday, August 8th at 10:30 am. We invite all who knew and loved Tom to join us in celebrating his life and saying our final goodbyes.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Knights of Columbus Council #8482 , an organization that was close to Tom's heart.
As we grieve the loss of a remarkable man, let us also take comfort in knowing that Tom now rests in the loving embrace of the Heavenly Father. May his soul find eternal peace and may we carry his memory in our hearts forever.
"May the choirs of angels come to greet you. May they speed you to paradise."
Rest in Peace, dear Thomas Romz.
