Obituary

Thomas Edward McCann, also known as Ed, or Eddie, 66, of Katy, Texas, passed away on January 8, 2023. Ed was born on September 12, 1956, in Houston, Texas.

Ed was a caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He grew up in a loving catholic home and was taught impeccable morals and principles that he passed down to his children. If at any time anyone, whether it be family or a close friend needed him, he was always there to lend a hand or a bit of quick-witted comedy relief. When his children were growing up, he would coach little league teams, and made sure they spent time outside playing. In January 2000, he and Elizabeth were married, creating a blended family, and since, their family has blossomed. Ed was a kind soul with a big heart. As a young man, he was a placekicker for the Sam Houston High School football team. After graduating high school, he began his career in the oil and gas industry as an industrial radiographer. In 2019, after forty-two years of service he retired.

Ed was the biggest University of Houston Cougar fan ever known, and he fiercely rooted for the Houston Astros, Houston Texans, and Houston Rockets. Although he did not go to the University of Houston as a student, he has been attending football practices and cougar football, basketball, and baseball games since the early 1970s. He was a major member of the "Road Warriors" taking road trips to football games across the United States. He was extremely optimistic about the teams, no matter what was going on. When anyone would start bad-mouthing the players and coaches he would always come to their defense and talk about the positive things that they had done. Ed always said if the Cougars could win a national championship in any one of the three major sports, he'd be ready to go. I know he will be at all the games in spirit and right there to help pull the Houston Cougars on to victory.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Carl and Mary McCann, daughter Jenny Russell, brother Steve McCann, and sister-in-law Pat McCann. He is survived by his sister Catherine Knapp and husband John, Janet East and husband John, his wife Elizabeth, and three children, Micheal McCann, and wife Ottilie, Sarah Harvey and husband Ryan, Justin Havemann, and wife Jodi, and grandchildren, Melissa Hunt, Blake Hunt, and wife Stephanie, Connor Harvey, Kamden Anderson, Megan Harvey, Blake Russell, Tristan Havemann, Maddie Harvey, Elissa Havemann, and Emilia Havemann, along with great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
