Thomas Nibert Mathews, of Cypress, TX took off for heaven on November 21, 2022.  He was 83 years old.

Tom was born in Gallipolis Ferry, WV in March of 1939, the youngest of 11 children of John C. Mathews and Mary C. (Nibert) Mathews.  He graduated from Point Pleasant (WV) High School in 1957 and immediately enlisted into the United States Marine Corps.  He completed boot camp at Parris Island, was stationed in Camp Lejeune, and traveled abroad during his active service.  He was an expert marksman and served as a military policeman.

Upon his honorable discharge, Tom eventually found his way to Louisville, KY where he met his devoted wife of 57 years, Carlene (Kerr) Mathews.  She was very much the love of his life and gave him constant prayer and encouragement.  They were married on August 1, 1965, and were later blessed with two sons, Thomas Keith and John Carlos.  Tom supported his family by working at General Electric's Appliance Park in Louisville for over 30 years.  His exceedingly strong work ethic led him to take on many overtime shifts, and he was consistently chosen for shutdown crews.  He was honored with multiple perfect attendance awards throughout his career, which he finished up by supervising the tool crib in Building 2.

Tom really loved the Lord, and he supported many churches and ministries throughout his life. An avid outdoorsman, he greatly enjoyed hunting and especially fishing of all kinds, with his dear friends in both Kentucky and Texas.  But more than that, Tom loved to spend time with his wife, their children, and grandchildren.  He always looked forward to their school, theater, and sporting events and he constantly bragged on their accomplishments and activities.  He had a true passion for family time, traveling, and vacationing together.  Tom and Carlene saw the country coast to coast and even ventured to Alaska, which they especially enjoyed.  He and his sons also recently completed their annual college football trip, where they got to visit his grandson Jett in Manhattan, KS.

Tom is survived by his wife Carlene, sons Tom (Tonya) and John, and his grandchildren Shelby, Pierce and Jett, along with multiple nephews, nieces, and other family members.  There will be a public visitation on Wednesday, November 30 ^th from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Klein Funeral Home Cy-Fair - Northwest location, on 9719 Wortham Blvd.  There will also be a Memorial Service on Thursday December 1 ^st at 10:00 AM at Father's House Church, 10640 Jones Rd. with a reception to follow.  Tom will be laid to rest later that afternoon at 1:45 PM at Houston National Cemetery.  All friends are welcome and encouraged to attend each of these events.
