On Thursday, August 26, 2021, Thomas R. Martens, loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend passed away at the age of 57.

Tom lived his first 9 years in Springfield, Illinois, raised by parents, Ray and Jane, and alongside brothers, Steve and Dave. Tom is survived by his wife, Stephanie, son, Jeremy, two daughters and son-in-laws, Erik and Emily Bestian, Isaak and Jennifer Bestian, his mother, Jane, and two brothers, Steve and Dave. Tom's life-long fandom of the Texas Longhorns was bolstered in 1986 when he received a B.S. from The University of Texas at Austin. He worked a faithful 27 years as an environmental consultant for Terracon Consultants, Inc.

Tom's heart was steadfastly postured towards his faith in Christ. His love for Jesus was constantly displayed in his service and selflessness, always looking out for others and their needs. At work, he was never just a coworker or boss to those he worked alongside - he was a confidant, mentor, and friend. Tom's greatest pride, closely followed by his love for the Longhorns, was his wife and children. He never failed to share how much he loved them all and how proud he was to wear the titles "Husband" and "Dad." He loved to golf, fish and hunt, spending many weekends on the river in Wimberley and at his brother's ranch in Giddings.

Tom was diagnosed on Christmas Day, 2020 with brain cancer. Although the treatment proved ineffective, Tom made the most of his last 8 months, taking vacations and spending countless hours with family and friends. While his physical strength declined, his light-hearted personality, humor, and confidence in his next destination never wavered.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Klein Funeral Homes & Memorial on Champion Forest Dr. from 5:00-7:00pm. Tom's funeral service will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Windwood Presbyterian Church on Spring Cypress Rd. at 10:00am, followed by his burial at Giddings City Cemetery on 900 W. Austin St. at 2:30pm.
