Thomas Levi Johnson, 89, of Spring, TX, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018. Tom was born on August 30, 1929, in Houlka, MS, to Horace and Lena Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Roy, Ray and Lynn Johnson, and his sister Doris Johnson Williams. He is survived by his wife, Faye Clark Johnson, daughter, Karla Johnson Neal, and her husband, Loyd, and grandchildren, Sam (spouse Shelby), Sterling (spouse Meredith), and Savannah. He is also survived by his sister, Laura Johnson Peden, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tom grew up in Mississippi. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. After competing his service, Tom graduated from Mississippi State University. After graduation, he met and married the love of his life, Faye. He later attended North Carolina State University where he received a Master's Degree. He worked for the U.S.D.A.'s Farmers Home Administration for 35 years. Tom and Faye retired to Spring, TX, in 1992 to begin a second career: taking care of their grandchildren. "Papaw" took an active role in raising his three grandchildren. He loved to take them fishing, catch critters, work on school projects, take them to church, and take them to and from school.
Tom was a man of great faith. He was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Starkville, MS, where he served as treasurer. After moving to Texas, he became a member of Champion Forest Baptist Church and also worked in its Family Life Center for 10 years. He was also involved in the Gideons ministry for many years.
Tom was an avid gardener. He was a loving and faithful husband, father and grandfather who loved his church and God. He left a legacy of numerous friends and neighbors who benefited from his selfless acts of kindness and compassion. Tom was a life-long example of a good and faithful servant.
