Obituary

Thomas R Johnson, age 72, of Houston, TX, passed away December 30, 2017. Tom was born to Harold and Roberta Johnson in Newport, RI on September 27, 1945. He grew up in Mount Vernon, Ohio as an only child.

Tom graduated from Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana in 1963. While attending Culver, he was a member of the Black Horse Troup and was honored to ride in the inaugural parade for President John F Kennedy. He was commissioned as 2nd lieutenant in the Ordinance Officer Candidate School at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD; he attended a military occupation specialty training course and entered the Army in 1965. He then served two years in Vietnam. He attended Virginia Military Institute for his first year in college, but he eventually earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Akron. His first job was with the Ford Motor Company in Charlotte, NC.

He married Kay Kelley and had two children. After working at Ford, he then worked for a several years with Caterpillar in Africa.

Tom married Doris Platzer on June 20, 1986. He retired from Motorola in 2005. Tom volunteered at the Shell Houston Open Golf Tournament for 25 years and was currently working as a Marshall for The Golf Trails of the Woodlands. He was a very active member of his community serving several years on the HOA board for Greenwood Forest.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; his two children, Jennifer (Andy) Stoner and Timothy Johnson. Two stepchildren; Rebecca Foster and Jeff (Robin) Ingles. His nine grandchildren; Sydney, Kayley, and Jack Stoner; Jessica (Josh) Shatzer and Stacey (Ryan) Burke; Samantha and Lindsey Ingles; and Ashleigh and Alicyn Ingles. He had six great-grandchildren; Austin and Finn Burke; Gabrielle, Natalie, and Brooklynn Shatzer, and Emmleigh Ingles. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Roberta Johnson; and stepson, Timothy Ingles.
