Thomas Lewis Day of Houston, TX, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on December 23, 1938 to the late Paul and Agnus Day in Jerseyville, Illinois.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 18 years Rumi (Funderburk) Day of Houston, TX; sisters Sue Rose and Ruth Day; daughters Claire Day and Rachel Davis; son Robert Day; grandchildren Tracy Day, Zachary and Nathan Davis; sons Charles and Lee Funderburk; daughter Tina Funderburk; grandchildren Karson, Kaleb, Kohen, Ellie, Finn, and Gray Funderburk, Kayli Bartsch, and Hayden and Ryan Le. He was preceded in death by parents Agnes and Paul Day; brothers Richard (Vic) Day and Roger Day; son Thomas Day Jr., and wife Cynthia Gsell Day.

A Memorial Viewing/Visitation will be held at Klein Memorial Park (9719 Wortham Blvd, Houston, TX 77065) on Sunday, November 20, 2022 from noon to 4 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at 823 Creek Wood Way, Houston, TX 77024 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Family and friends are invited to come and share fond memories and stories.

Tom grew up in Illinois where he met his first wife, Cynthia. Tom joined the Air Force after high school and was stationed in Kansas City. Upon completing his Air Force duty, Tom and Cynthia moved to Florida so that Tom could attend the University of Florida at Gainesville in pursuit of a Civil Engineering degree. At UF, Tom received numerous academic scholarships from the Department of Civil Engineering. Additionally, he was recognized as an outstanding scholar with membership to the National Engineering Honor Society. Tom made the Dean's List numerous times throughout his academic career, graduating with Honors in December 1968.

After graduating college, Tom entered the workforce in the Oil and Gas Industry where he had a distinguished career in various leadership roles for Occidental Petroleum. His career took him and his family abroad to numerous destinations across the US, Middle East, Europe, South America, Caribbean, and Central America. He was highly regarded as one of the premier contract negotiators, project managers, and executive leaders.

Tom lived an active and vibrant life. He enjoyed boating and riding dirt bikes. He was adept with his hands, as he could build a boat from scratch, rebuild a motor, and break down his own dirt bike. He loved solving everyday problems and enjoyed the challenges of life. Tom was witty, charming, and enjoyed engaging in business and politics. Everyone who knew Tom also felt his big heart and giving nature. He has touched so many lives.

Tom will be missed by family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. May he rest in peace.
