Thelma Rae Newburn

1937-2017

Thelma passed away peacefully at home on May 5, 2017.

"There is no other place where man becomes closer to God than in a home where love links the family with one another and the world beyond."

Thelma was the daughter of Raymond and Lydia Lowder of Crescent, Oklahoma. Thelma was born the youngest of the family preceded in death by her brothers Raymond Lowder, Leo Lowder, Bobby Lowder and survived by sisters Betty Lou Moore, Elma Ruth Lowe, Shirley Shepard and sister in law Florence Lowder.

"Once upon a time there was a person who came into my world in an ordinary way and every day after that the person has made every day more extraordinary than the last."

Thelma's travels lead her from Oklahoma to Houston, Texas where she met Michael and instantly fostered a lifelong connection.  The two were married on December 3, 1971. They began a lifelong journey that was full of love and adventure. Thelma was the loving wife of Michael Newburn for 46 years.

"Mother, when you thought I wasn't looking. I saw what you did for me. When you thought I wasn't listening. I heard every word."

Thelma was the mother to three extraordinary children. Anita Walden husband Tim Walden, Michael Leonard wife Connie Shaddy, Michael Newburn Jr. wife Robyn Newburn She set examples of pride, discipline and honor that has guided the three throughout all the success they have achieved in their lives.

"Grandchildren give us a second chance to do things better because they bring out the best in us."

Thelma is also remembered by her grandchildren Kristina Leonard, Charles Jonathon Leonard, and Eric Shaddy

"Family is not always blood. It's the people in your life who want you there; the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones that would do anything to see you smile and love you unconditionally."

Thelma is survived by her extended family that she accepted and loved Fayrene Nance, Mary Joyce & Paul Foster and many others that will remember her as diligent and loving part of their lives.
