Obituary

Terry L. Gramling passed away in Houston Texas on June 5, 2021 at the age of 72. He is survived by Cyndi Gramling — his devoted wife and the love of his life. Terry was born in Ashley Indiana on August 15, 1948.

The family later moved to Angola where Terry discovered the first love of his life — playing baseball.

The family later moved back to Ashley where he graduated high school. Terry coached baseball and attended a professional umpiring school.

Terry loved spending time with family and friends, especially Cyndi, his wife of 21 years.  They were truly best friends and loved spending time together. Terry never met a stranger; always making the conversation about you instead of himself.  He was also an animal lover and enjoyed feeding the neighborhood squirrels and playing with Bailey, the dog they rescued at four months old who is now 80 pounds. Regardless of the activity, Terry's energy and enthusiasm for life always made things enjoyable.

Terry was naturally athletic and enjoyed sports.  While playing basketball, he proposed to Cyndi jokingly saying "If I make this shot I'll marry you".  Needless to say it was a perfect shot.

He was also enthusiastic about golf especially when competing with his Houston nephews while playing partners with his brother. A fierce competitor but always fair and honest. A rare trait on the golf course! He also had a passion for cooking and mastered the family recipe for sugar cookies.

Terry is survived by his daughter, Kelly Gramling, son-in-law Michael Lytle, daughter-in-law Sara McCarty, grandchildren Andrew Lytle and his fiancé Mallory, Kailey Lytle, Madison Lytle, Michael Gramling and LaBrina McCarty, great granddaughter Mazarin Lytle, step-children Jill Houston, Bruce Houston and Brian Houston, a brother Ron Gramling and his wife, Cathi, in the Dallas area, brothers-in-law Keith Newman, Mark Newman and his wife Priscilla Newman. Terry is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.D. And Cleota Gramling and by two sisters,  Nancy Rockey and Carol Stegemoller, and in-laws Van and Marian Newman.

Terry passed away from heart failure while recovering from neck surgery. His health was complicated by diabetes and kidney failure. Despite those complications, Terry was always positive about life, recovering and getting back onto the golf course. He will be sadly missed by all.

A Celebration of Life will be at a later date.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the National Diabetes Association.
