Sylvia Martin Reimer , 69, of Houston went to be with the Lord on Monday, 9/20/2021. Sylvia, the oldest of 3 children to the late Bruce and Mildred Martin, had a servant's heart and lived her life heeding her Father's call. Sylvia was baptized at Glenn Rose Baptist Church in Houston, attended Candlestick Baptist Church in Spring, and later in life became a member of Champion Forest Baptist Church. While at Champion Forest Baptist Church she assisted with the first Community Mission Center's food warehousing and distribution and also volunteered with the media ministry as a video camera operator. Sylvia's desire to help others was carried out through her work in the medical field. She began her medical career as an EMT and volunteered on the ambulance with Cypress Creek EMS and the Harris County Emergency Corps. Here she met her husband, Jerry, and both eventually became paramedics and married in 1987. Sylvia then pursued her desire to become a registered nurse, a dream inspired by her aunt, Virginia Frederickson, RN. As a registered nurse, Sylvia worked for 20 years in the emergency department at Memorial Hermann in the medical center, became a certified emergency nurse, and also served on the Board of Directors for the Houston Emergency Nurses Association. Sylvia combined her love for the Lord, her medical skills, and her passion for helping others through medical mission trips to Rio De Janeiro with the Tennessee Baptist Convention, Nicaragua and Vietnam with The Flying Hospital, Togo Africa aboard a Mercy Ship, and Honduras with the International Health Service of Minnesota.

Even with a busy life full of servitude, Sylvia was passionate about and dedicated to her family. As a young wife and mother, she used her determination and ingenuity to find ways to support her family. Oftentimes these jobs required the assistance of her 2 children, Kym and Larry, and created many adventures along the way. Once grandchildren came along, Sylvia spent many hours "making memories" with them. From family vacations to simple car rides, laughter was guaranteed as Nana made sure every moment was enjoyed to the fullest. Sylvia is survived by her husband, Jerry Reimer, of Spring, Texas; daughter Kym Currie Teal (Scott) of Cypress, Texas; Larry Currie (Gaye Lynn) of Cypress, Texas; grandchildren Tyler Currie, Hayley Teal, Jacob Teal, Zachery Moriarty, Paden Hurst, and Ramsie Hurst; sister Denise Rodgers of Bay City, Texas and brother Rex Martin of Galveston, Texas. Funeral services will be held on October 2, 2021 at Champion Forest Baptist Church 15555 Stuebner Airline Rd. Houston, Texas 77069, viewing at 10am and service at 11am. Cemetery service to follow at Klein Memorial Park 9714 FM 2920 Tomball, Texas 77375.
