In Loving Memory of Sybil N. Sowell

Sybil N. Sowell, age 84, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026. Born on March 1, 1942, in Houston, Texas, she spent the last 26 years of her life in Cypress, where she became a familiar and beloved presence in her neighborhood.

Sybil was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard ("Dick") Sowell, who passed away in 1993. Together they built a loving family and raised their son, David.

She is survived by her son, David; her daughter-in-law; her two granddaughters; her two great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends who will cherish her memory.

Sybil began her career as a bank teller, where she developed the strong work ethic that would define her life. She later worked for H-E-B before joining Dick in his business, where she worked faithfully alongside him for many years. After Dick's passing, she continued that same dedication by working full-time in her son's embroidery business. Even after retiring, Sybil wasn't ready to slow down. She returned to work two afternoons each week, once again working alongside her son, enjoying the opportunity to stay active, contribute, and spend time with family.

One of Sybil's greatest joys was her faithful dog, Wolfie. Every day, the two could be found walking through the neighborhood together. Those walks became much more than exercise—they became an opportunity for Sybil to build lasting friendships and brighten the days of everyone she encountered. She loved stopping to visit with neighbors, and her warm smile and genuine interest in others made her a treasured friend to many.

A devoted member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Sybil found strength and comfort in her faith. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and neighbor whose life was marked by compassion, hard work, and kindness.

Her kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering love for family and friends will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

A Funeral Mass will be held in Houston, after which Sybil will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Dick, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds peace in knowing she has been reunited with Dick and has entered into the loving presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
