Susan Jean Kamkoff, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Sister, fell asleep in the Lord on March 9, 2021 in Conroe, TX.  She died as she lived, with unshakable faith in God, stoic good humor, and the love of her family.

Born April 4, 1945 in Whittier, California to Garland Peters and Helen (Edzards) Peters, Susan soon moved to Alaska where she spent most of her childhood.  Susan was the oldest of four, and is survived by her siblings, Diane Harvey, Richard Peters, and Maris Kelly. Also, she is survived by Richard's wife Linda Peters and Maris's husband Myles Kelly, and many nieces and nephews. Susan was close with her siblings as they grew up, even though they got to go on more family vacations than she did.  As adults, they became her closest friends.

Susan had a unique talent for cooking, and preparing meals for others was one of her great passions in life.  She loved to share recipes and tricks of the trade, and passed on her talent to two of her children and numerous grandchildren.  She loved animals, especially dogs and horses.  And if you ever see a beautiful garden, think of Susan, she may be tending to it from heaven.

In 1977 the family packed up and moved to California where, like always, Susan bloomed where she was planted. Although she considered herself a homebody, over the course of her nearly 76 years she rode on a motorcycle, ran a bait shop and a vintage clothing store, drove across the country, and saw the Grand Canyon. Despite feeling her age and if this weren't her funeral, she would join her rowdy grandchildren on the dance floor and cut a rug because she always knew how to have fun. If you were lucky and knew Susan well, you had a better sense of yourself and knew you were important in this world.

Susan is survived by her children Teresa Yniguez, Daniel Kamkoff, and Jennifer Friedman, and their father Andy Kamkoff. As well, by the spouses she loved dearly for her children, Mark Yniguez, Laurie Kamkoff and Jonathan Friedman. Susan took tremendous joy in her grandchildren Romaka (and Madison, and her great-grandaughter, Leslynn), Christian, Solomon (and Mary Kate), Nathan (and Sukey), Hannah, Gabriel, Ally, Garrett, and Tess.  Over the latter half of her adult life, Susan lived with or very near her children and their families.  She became very close with each of her grandchildren and played a central role in raising them.  They were never far from her mind and always in her heart. Many a times, if her grandchild's team was losing, we had to protect the ref from Gram's verbal assaults, but when they were winning, she was their loudest and proudest fan.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents Garland and Helen Peters, nieces Mary Perez and Miranda Kelly, and many a pampered canine. She is likely serving them a 7 course dinner as we gather here on earth to celebrate her vibrant life.
