Obituary

On January 4, 2024, Susan Ellis Edloff Johnson died peacefully in her home with family by her side.  She was 79 years old.

Susan is survived by her children, Laurie Zapinski and Amy & Brian Brewer; grandchildren, Shoshanna & Kevin Mathews, Joshua & Andria Wilson-Ward, Madison Brewer, Jacob Brewer; great-grandchildren Tru Mathews, Sophie Mathews, Cash Ward and Keaton Wilson.   She is also survived by her Brother-in-Law, Melvin Malzberg and nephew, Ethan Malzberg.  She was preceded in death by her parents Ethan Ellis & Shirley Ann Edloff; her sister Ann Malzberg and her beloved dog Bella.

Susan  was born on May 9, 1944 in Detroit Michigan. She graduated from Henry Ford High School in 1962.  In 1981, Susan moved to Houston, Texas with her daughters and first grandchild.  She dedicated herself to providing a loving and supportive home.  She instilled a strong work-ethic and "never give up" attitude in everyone that knew her.

Once her nest was empty, she went on to attend Holy Name Hospital School of Nursing in Teaneck, New Jersey where she graduated in 1989 with a degree in Nursing. After graduation, she returned to Houston and embarked on a fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse.  Susan worked in various departments, from recovery to surgery, retiring after almost 20 years from the Texas Childrens Women's Pavilion in the Houston Medical Center.

Susan dedicated her life to caring for others - family, friends and patients alike.   She never met a stranger and was always first in line when someone needed assistance of any kind.  She loved animals, going out to eat, and a good margarita.  She never missed a sporting event, play, recital or concert starring one of her beloved grandchildren and she was their biggest cheerleader in the stands or audience.

While her best qualities will live on in the people whose lives she touched, she will be deeply missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society in her name.
