Obituary

Born November 24, 1934, in Shreveport, Louisiana

Born into Heaven August 15, 2017, in Houston, Texas

Age: 82 years

Preceded in death by an infant son, husband Raymond W. Melton and parents Drew Jefferson Gunnells and Dura Lee Gunnells.

Sue was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana where she grew up in the church, accepting the Lord into her life. She attended Fair Park High School and Baylor University.  Upon returning to Shreveport, she met Raymond Melton and they married in 1956.  They lived in Shreveport for 21 years, raising their two daughters.  In 1977, Raymond was transferred to Houston and they put down roots in the Champions area of Houston, where Sue resided until her death.  In Houston, Sue worked at Fulbright & Jaworski Law Firm until her retirement.  Sue was very involved in her ladies "Joy" Sunday School Class, often organizing and leading the mission and benevolent activities of the Class.  If a social activity was involved, Sue was leading the effort to organize it.  In this Class, she made many friends and had a special core group who continue to meet on Friday nights to have dinner and play a game or two of cards.  She was adamant (some may say stubborn) to remain independent and in her home, where she often welcomed them with friendship and food!  She loved these friends beyond words, and as God planned it, they were with her when she took her final breath.  We are forever indebted to these friends who loved her, looked after her, stayed with her when necessary, and included her in their families!  She loved you beyond words and will be watching over us all  … until we meet again!
