Steven Edward Eakin, aged 35, passed away at home on Friday, August 20, 2021. He was born on March 19, 1986 in Houston, Texas to parents Gene and Lyn Eakin. Steven was known for his life-long love of the Houston Astros, his joyful laugh, and his big bear hugs.
Steven attended Cypress Fairbanks High School in Cypress, Texas and was a very proud 2006 Bobcat graduate. Following high school, Steven attended the Windfern School Vocation Program, in Cypress, and graduated in 2008.
At a young age, Steven joined SIRE Therapeutic Horsemanship, where he learned to ride his favorite horse named Vida. Through his school years, Steven was an athlete in the Cypress-Fairbanks Special Olympics and then the Divas and Dudes sports team, where he competed in many sports, including favorites, basketball and bowling, often helping to lead his team to a Gold medal.
Steven amassed many friends by attending the REACH Unlimited Learning Activity Center where he learned many vocational skills, and the ARC of Greater Houston Adventure Club where he learned community and social skills. Each summer, he attended Camp For All at Camp Champions in Burton, Texas, with his friends trying out many activities and making great memories.
Steven was a die-hard Astros fan, often announcing each player's name "broadcaster-style" during every game and keeping meticulous score. If you needed to know a game stat, Steven had it! He also enjoyed many family vacations to San Antonio, Galveston, Cayman Islands (where he enjoyed sipping on pina coladas), and Disney World, and taking care of his beloved pets, Corkie, Mitzie, and Rico, through the years.
The family would like to thank the countless doctors, nurses, and staff at MD Anderson who joined in Steven's care and showed such love and compassion for him during his treatment.
Steven is preceded in death by his grandparents, Don and Margorie Ritterbusch of Houston, and Joe and Dorothy Eakin of Timpson, Texas, Aunt Lana Eakin of Tyler, Texas, Uncle Joe and Aunt Luann Eakin, of Dallas, brother, David, and cousin, Derrick, of Houston.
Steven is survived by parents, Gene and Lyn Eakin, sister Shelby Yllana, and her husband, Arfeo, nieces Norah and Delphine, and nephew, Xavier of Houston, along with many loved aunts, uncles, cousins, his very best friends, Ryan and Samantha, and the love of his life, Shannon.
A visitation and service will be held Thursday, August 26, 2021 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Klein Funeral Home at 9719 Wortham Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77065, followed by a brief graveside service.
