Steven "Steve" Berry, 70, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on January 10, 1956, in Houston, Texas, to James (Jim) Louis Berry and Bette Lynn Bauer Berry.

Steve graduated from Cy-Fair High School in 1974. From an early age, he had a love for cars and a need for speed. That passion briefly steered him toward pursuing a career in racing. However, after determining he was better at crashing cars than driving them professionally, he wisely decided to pursue a different path—one that would allow him to stay close to the action while keeping all four wheels on the ground. That detour ultimately led him to a successful and respected career in commercial insurance.

Throughout his years in the industry, Steve handled a wide range of clients, meeting their needs with creativity, integrity, and genuine care. His clients often became close friends—a true testament to the relationships he built and the trust he inspired. In many ways, his early experiences with fast cars made him uniquely qualified to understand risk.

On February 21, 2004, he married the love of his life, Nancy Berry. Together they built a life centered on love, laughter, and quiet moments at home. Steve cherished time spent with Nancy and took great pride in caring for the home they shared.

An avid hunter, Steve loved the outdoors and treasured time spent riding in the helicopter or jeep with friends. He had a remarkable talent for fixing things—cars, heavy machinery, and just about any problem brought to him by family or friends. If something was broken, he could fix it. If someone needed help, he was there—often with a tool in hand and a solution already forming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Louis Berry and Bette Lynn Bauer Berry; his nephew, Hunter Colvin; and his beloved grandsons, Ethan and Archer Foster.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy Berry; his children, James; Christina; Amanda and her husband Shane; David and his wife Andrea; and Tammy and her husband Jonathan; his cherished grandchildren, Wyatt, Parker, Grace, Colton, JoLynn, Thomas, Harper, Daniel, Steven, Juliet, and a baby boy expected in June; and his sister, Susan Colvin and her husband Drew.

Steve will be remembered for his steady presence, generous spirit, quick wit, and deep love for his family and friends. He lived boldly, fixed what was broken, and found joy in both the thrill of the ride and the peace of being home. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the many stories that will be told for generations.

A celebration of life will be held on March 6th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Vintage Ridge in Hempstead, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember him.
