Steven Alan Bate, 60, of Huffman, Texas, surrounded by his wife and children, went home to be with his Savior on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia; children, Ashley (Kyle), Matt (Hayley), Kristen (Stephen), and Alex; grandchildren, Evan, Luke, Lily, Lainey, Austin, Reese, and Foster; father, Roger; siblings Mary Jo, Judy and Mark; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends whom he loved dearly; and his beloved dog, Lucy Blue.  Steve was preceded in death by his older brother, Greg, and his mother, Pat.

Steve was born April 28, 1962 to Mary Patricia and Roger Bate in Pampa, Texas.  He moved to Asheville, North Carolina before settling in Houston, Texas.  After Steve graduated from North Shore High School in 1980, he went on to study accounting at the University of Houston.

After graduating cum laude with a degree in Business Administration in 1984, he started his first job at PriceWaterhouse.  He then worked for Compaq, Landmark Graphics, Insource, Metamore, NetVersant, Encompass, C-Level Partners, and finally ION before retiring in 2020.  His career took him around the world including seasons where he lived in Holland, Canada and China.

In 2000, he met Virginia at their 20th high school reunion.  They married in 2001, and she was the true love of his life.  They were blessed with 21 years of marriage.

Steve's hobbies included golfing, fishing, and gardening.  He loved cooking for his family and friends, usually in amounts that were triple what was necessary, and was famous for his macaroni and cheese at Thanksgiving and Papaw pancakes after a sleepover.  Steve's sense of humor brought light to even the darkest of days, and he delighted in passing his best jokes on to his grandchildren.  He clung tightly to his unwavering faith in Jesus as he courageously battled lymphoma, leukemia, and a bone marrow transplant.  He greeted his doctors and nurses with a smile and continuous gratitude - often ministering to them while they cared for him.

Steve's celebration of life will be held in the chapel of Faithbridge Church on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. ( 18000 Stuebner Airline Rd, Spring, Texas 77379 ).  In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made in Steve's name to Houston Methodist Hospital in honor of the doctors and nurses who meant so much to him. https://www.houstonmethodist.org/
