Steve Louis Guzzetta was born January 30, 1950, in Houston, Texas. He passed away peacefully on Friday April 7, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was 73 years of age.

Steve is survived by his three children, Steve L. Guzzetta Jr., Stephanie Guzzetta Lyle and husband Joseph W. Lyle Jr., and Jenna Guzzetta and fiance Matthew Henley and five grandchildren. He is also survived by four siblings, Blaise Guzzetta (Rhonda), Sam Guzzetta Jr. (Margaret), Bernie Guzzetta (Marybess), and Jeanice Netzel (Mike), along with many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Sam and Jeanette (Bilao) Guzzetta and his daughter Mary Jeanette Guzzetta.

He attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, where he met lifelong friend Benny Provenzano (pallbearer) in the first grade. Steve graduated from Austin High School in 1967 where he played baseball. After graduating high school, he entered the Air National Guard and attended basic training in San Antonio, Texas where he served the National Guard Reserve as a military policeman. Steve also attended San Jacinto College, University of Houston and Houston Community College.

In September of 1969, he married Jennifer Rizzotto Guzzetta, and together, they welcomed their children Steve L. Guzzetta, Jr., the late Mary Jeanette Guzzetta, and Stephanie Guzzetta Lyle. They were married for twenty-three years. In 1993, he married Aloma Williams, and together, they had a daughter, Jenna Guzzetta.

Over the course of his career, Steve served as a fireman in the Houston Fire Department for 13 years. He also worked for Continental Airlines and United Airlines, where he retired in October 2018.

Steve collected his thoughts in a special journal to his children and grandchildren where he captures many poignant moments from 1999-2021. Through his writings, he mentioned births, weddings, birthdays, holidays and deaths of loved ones. He also offered gratitude to God for the life he lived. This is portrayed when Steve states, "I am so very glad that God gave me this life…and I've been very very blessed. I have wonderful children and a great family."

Steve is survived by five grandchildren, Grant Guzzetta (23), Luke Guzzetta (19), Laney Lyle (18), Lance Lyle (16) and Camryn Guzzetta (16). He was extremely proud of all his grandchildren. From a journal entry, Steve said this about being a grandpa, " ...it's as if God is giving you another opportunity to take all of your know-how and put it back into action again, in a totally and completely different way - I am so proud and so blessed!"

Steve loved playing chess and racquetball, going to the beach, and was an avid reader.  He especially enjoyed holiday family poker games with the grandkids, fiercely competitive.

At the time of his death, he was reading The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway. The message from the book is that when you grasp that the human condition is a never ending cycle of ups and downs, happy and sad times, triumphs and tragedies, it removes some of the sting from painful events. Steve's life epitomized this concept.

Steve is also survived by his girlfriend Roxana (Roxy) Gonzalez and her son, Luis Hernandez, with whom he shared his life with for the last seven years. They celebrated many memories beachside in Port Isabel, Texas, with their pup, Rex.

Steve reminds us, "You never really know when God is going to call. I (We) need to concentrate on the truly wonderful things about life."

A special thank you to the Texas Oncology team, Dr Henna Malik, Kellie Myers, and staff at Willowbrook Methodist Hospital and Heart 2 Heart hospice for their professional and compassionate care. Nurse Pearl will forever be known as a "wise guy" with the best frozen popsicles.

The funeral services for Steve will be held on Friday April 14, 2023, at Klein Funeral Home, 9719 Wortham Blvd, Houston, Texas 77065. Visitation will take place from 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., and the Funeral Service will begin at 9:00 a.m. The burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. located at Forest Park Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale, Houston, Texas 77023.

The pallbearers for the service will be Grant Guzzetta, Luke Guzzetta, Lance Lyle, Trey Guzzetta, Benny Provenzano, and Luis Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers will be Blaise Guzzetta, Sam (Junie) Guzzetta, Bernie Guzzetta, and Mike Netzel.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cypress Assisted Ministries (CAM) in honor of Steve L. Guzzetta.
