Stephen Earl Allen, more commonly known as "Steve" or "Pops," passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the age of 69. He was born to Ernest and Norma Allen in McLeansboro, IL, as the third of four children. Steve is preceded in death in by his parents and his brother, Cecil Allen.
Steve is survived by his wife of 49 years, Susan; son Greg Allen and his wife, Miranda, and their two sons William and Samuel; daughter Cassie Greenway and her husband, Jason, and their children Addison, Kamryn, and Gates; sister Mickey Skelton and her husband Ed; brother Ernest Allen and his wife Ruth Ann; and a number of nieces and nephews who greatly adored him.
Shortly before marrying Susan, Steve served in the United States Army and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. Upon his return, Steve also served his community as a volunteer in the fire department and as an officer of the law. Steve then built a career as a fire, health, and safety leader where he became a mentor and a friend to many of his co-workers over 45 plus years in the energy industry.
Steve enjoyed golfing, spending quality time with friends and family, as well as watching his beloved Chicago Bears. Steve was a generous man who always put the needs of others in front of his own. He will be forever remembered as a wonderful husband, loving father and grandfather, and a kind and loyal friend.
A celebration of Steve's life will be held for family and friends at a future date. In lieu of flowers, Steve's family would greatly appreciate that donations be made to the Swing Fore Hope Organization to aid in the battle against cancer.
