Obituary

Stan was born on October 28, 1948, in Grinnell, Iowa, and passed peacefully on February 1, 2024, in Houston, Texas, after a brief illness.

Stan graduated with a degree in Journalism from Iowa State University, where he was the sports editor of the Iowa State Daily newspaper.  He was drafted into the US Army and served two years in the personnel division at Fort Hood, Texas, during the Vietnam War.  He moved to Houston in 1972 and built a rewarding career in sales.

Stan coached little league baseball, and was an avid reader, gardener and cyclist.  He was a charter member of Lifepath Church and served as Missions Elder, life group leader, community garden and landscaping volunteer, among numerous other activities. After retirement, volunteer roles grew to include Meals on Wheels, Strong Socks, Bel Inizio, Reach Unlimited, Harris County Master Gardeners, Mission Cy-Fair, and Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents Robert Stanley Stevenson and Phyllis Corinne Carey Stevenson.  He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Lance Stevenson of Houston, Texas; brother, Joel Brent Stevenson and wife Kristien Stevenson of Chandler, Arizona; nephew, Ryan Spencer Stevenson of Chandler, Arizona; aunt, Wanda Stevenson of Hammond, Indiana; plus several cousins and extended family.

A celebration of Stan's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, at Lifepath Church, 17703 W. Little York, Houston, TX 77084.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local food pantry or a charity of your choice.
