St. Elmo Smith, Jr. was the first child of St. Elmo Smith, Sr. and Vera Davis Smith. Born in Humble Camp in Goose Creek, Texas on August 2nd, 1940, he grew up on Avenue I in Beaumont. He attended Beaumont High School, and went on to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lamar Tech. In 1971, he married Deborah Diana Wilkerson Smith, the love of his life, to whom he would be married for 48 years until the day he died. His only child, Jodie Michelle Smith, was born in 1983, by which he has three grandchildren, Lana Audrey Smith, Vera Michelle Cook, and Cayden Kyle Cook. Elmo was known to all his friends, both young and old, as the go-to expert on classic cars. Repairing and restoring cars proved to be a lifelong hobby of his. After a long battle with COPD, Elmo passed away early in the morning of August 19th, 2019.
